! In this vital role, the Estimator II performs independent, intermediate-to-advanced estimating activities for commercial and industrial electrical construction and service projects. Building on the foundational takeoff, quantity tracking, and estimating system responsibilities of Estimator I, this position develops and reviews complete estimates, evaluates labor and material requirements, coordinates vendor and subcontractor pricing, identifies scope and risk considerations, and supports bid strategy and preconstruction planning.

Estimator II is expected to manage assigned estimates with limited day-to-day direction, communicate assumptions and clarifications, and contribute to accurate, competitive, and well-documented proposals. The position may provide technical guidance and quality review to Estimator I or other estimating support personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare and manage estimates for assigned commercial, industrial, and electrical service projects from receipt of bid documents through bid submission.
  • Perform and validate detailed digital takeoffs using Bluebeam, Accubid, and other company-approved tools, including fixtures, devices, distribution equipment, specialty systems, conduit, wire, feeders, and branch circuits.
  • Develop labor and material estimates using company estimating databases, assemblies, labor units, historical cost information, productivity assumptions, and project-specific conditions.
  • Review drawings, specifications, addenda, schedules, and scope documents to identify requirements, exclusions, conflicts, missing information, and potential cost or schedule impacts.
  • Develop estimate-level scope narratives, inclusions, exclusions, qualifications, alternates, and bid clarifications; coordinate questions and pre-bid RFIs with the preconstruction team.
  • Solicit, organize, level, and evaluate vendor, equipment, and subcontractor quotations; verify that quotes align with project specifications, quantities, lead times, and estimate scope.
  • Analyze project requirements and jobsite conditions that may affect labor productivity, installation methods, access, phasing, outage coordination, material handling, and overall cost.
  • Identify estimating risks and opportunities, including scope gaps, escalation or procurement concerns, schedule constraints, design development, and constructability considerations; elevate material issues to the Preconstruction Manager or VP of Preconstruction.
  • Prepare and maintain organized estimate files, bid documents, quote comparisons, takeoff records, pricing backup, assumptions, and bid revisions in accordance with company procedures.
  • Review estimate completeness and accuracy before submission, reconcile major quantity or pricing variances, and ensure that bid deliverables are assembled and submitted by established deadlines.
  • Participate in bid reviews and estimate handoff meetings; communicate estimate basis, scope boundaries, cost drivers, outstanding items, and procurement considerations to project management and operations.
  • Support post-bid review, project turnover, and feedback from awarded and completed work to improve estimating accuracy, labor units, assemblies, and historical cost data.
  • Maintain and improve estimating databases, templates, standard assemblies, and pricing information; recommend process improvements that support consistency and efficiency.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and technical support to Estimator I and estimating support staff; review takeoffs or estimate…
