Overview
You will work in different areas:
Inpatient, Outpatient, ICU (Intensive Care Unit), and share on-call duties. The job includes medical care, surgeries, trauma cases, and treating adults. There are 4 full-time Critical Care Physicians in the group. Your schedule will be Monday to Friday, plus on-call every 4th night and every 4th weekend. On average, each physician will take care of up to 20 ICU patients during the day, with help from nurse practitioners.
When working with non-ICU patients, you’ll see up to 10 patients a day. You may admit around 5 new patients each day.
The trauma level is III. The hospital uses a medical record system called Cerner.
Procedures You Will Perform- You will manage breathing tubes (like ETT, NT, and tracheostomy) and machines like BiPAP and CPAP.
- You will insert various lines:
Central Line, Arterial Line, PA Catheter, and Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP). - You will perform certain medical procedures, such as Thoracentesis (removing fluid from the chest) and Paracentesis (removing fluid from the abdomen).
- Other procedures include chest tube insertion, bronchoscopy (looking inside the lungs), and tests for lung diseases.
You will manage diseases like asthma, pneumonia, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), pulmonary fibrosis, and more.
Qualifications Needed- You must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pulmonary Disease (required to test within 5 years).
- You must also be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Critical Care Medicine.
- You need an Iowa medical license or be willing to get one.
- You must have completed a fellowship in Pulmonary Disease/Critical Care Medicine (new graduates are welcome).
- You need ACLS certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
- Experience with various medical procedures and conditions is required.
- It is preferred to have no previous malpractice issues.
- ACLS certification.
- Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible.
- Must have an Iowa state medical license.
Fellowship-trained and Board Eligible candidates should plan to take the required tests.
