OverviewPosition:
Assistant Basketball Coach / Assistant Football Coach (multiple positions available) at Davenport Community Schools. The district reserves the right to split employment between qualified candidates where applicable.
- Sport Duties:
Demonstrate the ability to teach and coach young people in fundamentals and techniques; maintain a strong program with the appropriate competitive drive; continuously improve the program and the sports program at West High School; motivate student‑athletes to excel on the court and in the classroom; communicate with administration, staff, students, booster clubs; support the strength and conditioning coordinator to ensure proper conditioning and weight training;
provide adequate supervision before, during, and after practices/games. - School Duties:
Lead by example with high character; promote participation in other programs at West High School; work with Athletic Boosters for concession stands and attend at least one meeting per academic year; support and implement Davenport’s MTSS for behavior and academics; maintain good attendance and punctuality; build rapport with culturally diverse students to help each child reach their potential. - Other duties as assigned by head coach or administration.

- Sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.
- Occasionally lift/move/push items up to 50 lbs (e.g., assisting students or moving/rearranging furniture).
- Supervise students in all types of weather.
- Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
- Implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.
- Noise level ranges from quiet to loud.
- Work may be indoors and/or outdoors; may be in non‑air‑conditioned rooms.
- Substance‑free environment.
- Fast‑paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, or the public.
- Direct responsibility for the safety, well‑being, and work output of students.
- Complete online application including a resume and three letters of reference.
- Must hold a valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Iowa Teaching License with Coaching Endorsement.
- Experience with competition/success at the state level is desired.
