Lead Mechanical Engineer – Eaton
Aerospace R&D division seeks a Lead Mechanical Engineer for the Air‑to‑Air Refueling system. Based in Davenport, IA. Relocation assistance available within the U.S.
SalaryAnnual salary range: $93,750 – $137,500. This is a guideline; actual compensation will depend on experience, qualifications, and market conditions.
What You’ll DoPrimary Function: Design, analyze, test, and certify aerial refueling components and systems from concept through launch, ensuring performance, reliability, manufacturability, DFMA, and cost optimization.
Essential Functions- Provide technical leadership for system and subsystem development in compliance with Eaton’s engineering processes, guidelines, and SOPs.
- Apply aerospace design processes and lead technical teams during gated‑process design reviews.
- Work with product development stakeholders to ensure product meets technical, business, process, and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate and execute product design activities within project scope, cost, and schedule constraints.
- Review peer‑created documentation such as analysis or test results to ensure completeness and quality.
- Analyze and document multi‑disciplinary requirements including mechanical, electro‑mechanical, software, reliability, maintainability, and safety.
- Serve as technical interface with external customers, translating needs into verifiable engineering requirements.
- Act as technical interface with internal/external customers, suppliers, and various functional teams to develop systems and products.
- Identify and mitigate risk and opportunity on new design and product improvement projects.
- Mentor less experienced engineering resources to improve product knowledge and engineering expertise.
- Support site and project planning, rollout, and compliance with Model Based Engineering (MBE) and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) requirements.
- Execute, support, and oversee engineering changes for production, manufacturing, and customer field issues.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 5 years of system, product design, development, and/or production design problem‑resolution experience.
- U.S. citizenship required;

- Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.
- 7 years of experience in Aerospace, Mechanical, Hydraulic, Electro‑Mechanical, and/or Systems Engineering.
- 5 years of experience leading product development efforts with requirements development, validation, and verification, customer engagement, technical solution development, systems documentation, and root‑cause problem solving.
- Design for Six Sigma or Six‑Sigma (DMAIC) Greenbelt or Blackbelt certification.
- Intermediate CREO Design Software experience and release of designs into configuration management systems.
- Demonstrated technical leadership competency working with a cross‑functional team.
- Communication and collaboration experience with internal and external customers.
- Demonstrated creativity and strategic thinking.
- Experience with one or more of the following: new product developments; mechanical engineering; military projects; aerospace systems and component design and development; system integration and verification; requirements compliance and traceability.
- Demonstrated technical leadership with a cross‑functional team.
- Communication and collaboration experience with internal and external customers.
- Creativity, initiative, and self‑starter attitude.
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
- Leadership skills with strong customer presence.
- Model Based Systems Engineering experience is a strong plus.
- Ability to multi‑task and establish priorities in a rapidly changing environment.
