CSU RN, Charge - Cardiovascular Registered Nurse

Department: Progressive Care Stepdown Unit

Shift: 2nd shift (3:00pm–11:30pm)

Hours: 0.8 (32 hours a week)

Employment Type: Full time

Position Title: RN, Charge

Purpose

Provides shift-to-shift leadership for the practice and delivery of safe, effective, ethical, and culturally-competent care for adolescent through aging adult cardiovascular patients. This includes support for management of human, fiscal, material, and environmental resources in accordance with hospital guidelines, organizational/nursing philosophies, and in compliance with regulatory and professional standards, including ANA Standards of Professional Performance. Key accountabilities include fostering interdisciplinary collaborative relationships;

making appropriate patient care assignments; ensuring smooth shift operations; facilitating a seamless transition for the next shift that includes exchange of essential information; active participation in quality monitoring and performance improvement activities; promoting evidence-based practice through research utilization or conduct of practice research.

Reporting & Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Reports to:

    Manager
  • Supervisory Responsibility:
    The job requires some accountability for scheduling, assigning, or coordinating work. The employee will check the quality of work, provide guidance, instruction, training, and direction to others. The job requires some formal or official supervisory responsibility. The individual serves as a group leader and acts in an assistant supervisory or lead role. In addition, the employee is expected to provide information or suggestions on human resources matters.
  • Materials Responsibility:
    Limited. Work requires limited responsibility for material resources. Examples of resources could include supplies, equipment, inventories, small budgets, and other similar material assets. The employee has a limited amount of control over these resources. The cost of errors is also limited. Problems associated with material resources are not complex.
  • Key Relationship:
    Co‑workers/Health System Employees, General Public/Visitors/Volunteers, Physicians/Medical Office Staff, Students/Interns/Residents/Outside Instructors, Patients, Families, and Significant Others.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Education:

    Associate's Degree in Nursing.
  • Special Training:
    Promotion to Administrative III or IV Charge Nurse required within 2 years of full‑time charge nurse position. ACLS;
    Basic Life Support.
  • Preferred:
    Baccalaureate degree in nursing or clinical certification.
  • Licensure/Registration:
    Registered Nurse in Iowa. (Registered Nurse in Illinois within 1 year.)
  • Experience:

    More than 1 year of experience.
  • Interpersonal

    Skills:

    Requires high degree of interpersonal skills to handle complex and sensitive topics and gain agreement of others.
  • Working Conditions:

    Exposure to adverse environmental conditions etc.
  • Possible Exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens:
    Yes.
