The nurse provides immunizations to infants, children, and adults and answers questions from providers, school staff, child-care staff, and the public. Immunization certificates are audited at schools, preschools, and child-care centers, and Iowa requirements are explained to families and staff. The position prepares reports and maintains vaccine standing orders.
Children identified with lead poisoning receive medical case management that includes education, screening, and referrals. The nurse also conducts child-care consulting and onsite health and safety assessments connected with Iowa's Quality Rating System. These duties require accurate records, follow-up with families, and communication with community partners.
Communicable Disease And Employee Health ServicesThe position interviews, investigates, documents, and coordinates follow-up for suspected or confirmed reportable communicable diseases. A passive electronic surveillance system is maintained with schools. Rabies risk assessments, post-exposure referrals, and partner notifications for positive STD, HIV, and AIDS cases are part of the program workload.
Scott County employees receive tuberculosis, hepatitis B, blood borne-pathogen, and hearing-conservation services through the department. The nurse provides confidential STD and HIV counseling, clinical exams, testing, treatment, and referrals. Skills in vaccination administration, capillary and venous blood collection, data analysis, presentations, and confidential recordkeeping support these assignments.
Credentials And Daily WorkThe position requires an Iowa Registered Nurse license, an associate degree in nursing, and two years of nursing experience. First Aid, CPR, and AED certification must be maintained. A Mandatory Reporter certificate and STD Clinician certification are required or must be obtained within six months of hire.
