Overview

Whitehaven Veterinary Center is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our team. Our staff is conscientious, compassionate, and trained to provide top quality medicine. We are seeking a dedicated Veterinary Assistant / Patient Care Coordinator to join our team and help elevate the patient and client experience every step of the way.

This hybrid position is ideal for someone who loves animals and people. As a Veterinary Assistant, you’ll support our medical team with hands-on animal care. As a Patient Care Coordinator (PCC), you’ll take on a client-focused role that goes beyond answering phones or working the front desk, acting as the liaison between the client and the medical team with empathy, clarity, and support.

Shift: 4-day work week with rotating Saturdays

Compensation: $16-18/hr

Job Summary

As a Veterinary Assistant: Assist veterinarians and technicians with exams, treatments, and procedures; prepare exam rooms and maintain cleanliness and organization; handle and restrain pets safely and compassionately; perform basic lab tasks under supervision; maintain accurate medical records.

As a Patient Care Coordinator (Client Experience-Focused): Serve as the primary point of contact for client communication during and after appointments; provide thoughtful explanations of treatment plans, procedures, and follow-up care; proactively check in with clients pre- and post-visit to ensure satisfaction and understanding; support the client journey by coordinating appointment logistics and ensuring clarity at every stage; act as an advocate for both the pet and the pet owner, helping bridge clinical recommendations and client comfort;

identify opportunities to improve client satisfaction and experience.

The Veterinary Assistant aids and supports the medical support team in the operation of an animal facility in accordance with Mission Pet Health (MPH) hospital policy and procedures. The Veterinary Assistant may provide medical care to patients as allowed in the veterinary practice act.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and uphold the Core Values and Mission Statement of MPH.
  • Assist in all daily duties for clinic care.
  • Participate in any special cleaning duties.
  • Provide client care by scheduling appointments, taking payments, and check-ins.
  • Maintain excellent client communication.
  • Record all pertinent medical, client, and case-related information in the patient record accurately with appropriate grammar and terminology.
  • Review medical records, estimates or discharge instructions with clients. Answer the phones in a courteous and informative way.
  • Provide patient care under the direction of a DVM.
  • Perform clinic upkeep and equipment maintenance as directed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be proficient in a variety of skills ranging from laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental, and nursing tasks.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience and composure in stressful situations, and to handle a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
  • English language proficiency (reading, writing, speaking) to perform duties proficiently.
  • Confident around pets.
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds; ability to manipulate objects as needed.
  • Endurance to sit, stand, and walk on hard surfaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in noisy environments with sounds from animals and equipment.
  • Exposure to animals (possible bites or scratches), anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medications/controlled substances.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity; able to use a keyboard and operate equipment with normal vision requirements (including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus).
