OverviewPosition: 7th/8th Grade Girls Basketball Coach and 7th Grade Boys Assistant Basketball Coach (district reserves the right to split the position between two qualified candidates).
Responsibilities- Supervision of all phases of the basketball program — planning, strategy, instruction in fundamentals, and related duties.
- Care and issuance of all basketball equipment used by the team.
- Communicate with the high school coaching staff(s) and attend meetings or mini clinics to ensure continuity in the DSCD 7-12 grade basketball programs.
- Understand, monitor, and enforce district academic standards, policies, and eligibility requirements.
- Develop athletes to their fullest potential, starting with fundamentals and progressing to more advanced skills.
- Promote good sportsmanship among student-athletes.
- Complete required reports and record information accurately and in a timely manner.
- Be knowledgeable of and responsible for the athletic policy approved by the Board of Education.
- Supervise athletes at practices and games, as well as in the locker room and on the bus.
- Maintain an enthusiastic attitude and the ability to work with intermediate-aged youth in an athletic setting.
- Collaborate with the building Activity Director and with the Director of Athletics for the Davenport Community Schools.
- Other duties as assigned by administration.
- Support and implement Davenport's MTSS for behavior and academics.
- Build rapport with culturally diverse students to help each child reach their full potential.
- Maintain good attendance and punctuality to perform duties successfully.
- Sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.
- Able to demonstrate basketball techniques as necessary.
- Occasionally lift, move, or push items up to 50 lbs.
- Supervise students in all types of weather.
- Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
- Possess the ability to implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including appropriate physical restraint procedures and escorting.
- Noise level ranges from quiet to loud.
- Work may be indoors and/or outdoors, possibly in non-air-conditioned rooms.
- Substance-free environment.
- Fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, and the public.
- Direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.
- Must hold a valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Iowa Teaching License with Coaching Endorsement.
- Experience with competition/success at the state level is desired.
