Duties & Responsibilities

Sport Duties

Must demonstrate the ability to teach and coach young people in the fundamentals and techniques of baseball.

Must demonstrate the appropriate competitive drive to develop and maintain a strong baseball program.

Must demonstrate desire to constantly improve the program and overall sports program at West High School.

Must demonstrate ability to motivate student-athletes to be the best they can be on the field and in the classroom.

Must demonstrate ability to communicate with all stakeholders including administration, staff, students, and booster club.

Support the strength and conditioning coordinator to ensure proper conditioning and weight training for our student athletes.

Must provide adequate supervision before, during, and after practices/games.

School Duties

Must lead by example demonstrating high character and solid moral background.

Must promote other programs at West High School and encourage participation in other activities.

Must work with Athletic Boosters in managing concession stands throughout the year and attend at least one meeting per academic year.

Feeder Programs

Assist in offering a complete and dedicated effort toward the development of baseball at every age level.

Assist at one coach’s clinic and one youth camp per year.

Assist in the Davenport West High Athletic Boosters youth summer sports camp.

Any duties as assigned by the head coach and administration.

Occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs., such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture.
Supervise students in all weather conditions.
Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and staff.
Implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including physical restraint procedures and escorting.

Special Qualifications

Must possess a valid Iowa coaching endorsement, including completion and submission of the NFHS Online Concussion Course.
Previous coaching experience is preferred.
Availability for evening hours.
Other qualifications as deemed appropriate by administration.
