Position Title
Multilingual Learner LEARN Works Instructor

Job SummaryUnder the general direction of the Director of Education Services as well as in accordance with the mission of the Ada Jenkins Center and purpose of the LEARN Works After school Academic & Enrichment Program, the ML LEARN Works Instructor will be directly responsible for supporting the reading progress, the academic enrichment of a group of elementary Multilingual Learners, and for providing strong, caring supervision at all times, using explicit instruction practices and ML resources.
JobQualifications
- Minimally one year certificate from college or technical school; or six months to a year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 2 years of experience working with elementary school students preferred.
- ESL, TESOL, or certified in a similar program. If not currently certified at the time of hire, TESOL certification can be acquired shortly after.
- Fluency and literacy in another language preferred.
- Must already be familiar with or willing to learn and employ the program's philosophy utilizing Love and Logic principles in working children and families.
- Prior experience working with volunteers preferred.
- Computer proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Comfortable with online instruction and familiar with Microsoft Office apps preferred.
- CPR and First Aid Certified. If not currently certified at the time of hire, certification can be acquired shortly after.
- Proven excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.
- Works well with others and behaves professionally and ethically while developing professionally.
- Able to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Is adaptable and open to change and new information; adapts behavior and work methods in response to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles.
- Adjusts rapidly to new situations warranting attention and resolution. Is committed to continuous improvement.
- Must have a passion for the work of the Ada Jenkins Center, with a genuine commitment to the fulfillment of the agency's mission.
- Develop elementary students academically:
English Language Development & Reading Support:
Create and implement lessons for groups of ML students utilizing determined curriculum(s), explicit instruction, ML resources. Coach students in whole group, small groups, pairs and/or individually regarding English proficiency skills and the use of reading strategies. Monitor the progress of each student on an ongoing basis, provide students with consistent feedback about progress and achievement and provide feedback to parents about the progress of their student at determined intervals or as requested.
Enrichment Programming
- Coordinate and implement enrichment activities to enhance academic instruction and provide opportunities for real life application of skills.
- Collaborate with fellow LEARN Works instructors for ML students to participate in class/grade level(s) enrichment.
- Ensure students complete evaluation or assessments as needed.
- Model student expectations and the Love and Logic philosophy for program participants.
- Ensure that the Love and Logic philosophy is consistently applied in classroom and other settings.
- Identify students in need of extra support for social skill development and implement strategies designed to promote the students' abilities to make good choices.
- Provide participants with encouragement about their personal growth and development.
- Establish routines and procedures for the classroom that maintain a safe, positive learning climate for participants.
- Set and model the tone for your classroom to foster a conducive environment for learning and participation.
- Complete communications and efforts in the After school 201 database.
- Complete weekly lesson plans.
- Enter students' assessment scores in the After school 201 database.
- Submit monthly success stories in After school 201 database.
- Participate in the evaluation process for students and volunteers.
- Attend training sessions as required.
- Participate in observations and coaching check-ins.
- Establish performance goals, performance mid-year check-ins, and self and supervisor annual performance appraisals.
- Participate in the development of the program.
- Attend team meetings.
- Communicate with supervisor and colleagues about needs and concerns.
- Parents:
Establish a relationship with each parent, communicate regularly with parents via communication platforms, keep parents informed of their student's progress, attend parent workshops scheduled during the school year,…
