Under general direction of the Student Disability Center (SDC) Director, coordinate disability-related academic accommodations and serve as specialist for students with a broad range of disabilities in accord with UC policy and federal/state law. Work directly with students, faculty, and others to facilitate accommodations and the interactive process. Serve as member of SDC Specialists' team; represent SDC and present outreach programs;

other projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in related area (e.g., counseling, social work, education) or equivalent combination of education and experience/training.
  • Experience in providing services to students with disabilities at the post-secondary level.
  • Experience in evaluating student requests for academic adjustments and determining reasonable accommodations.
  • Experience in advising students with disabilities about disability strategies and management; in providing crisis response; and in making appropriate referrals.
  • Expertise in interpreting documentation and determining appropriate accommodations.
  • Knowledge of appropriate diagnostic and screening instruments required for evaluation of visual, mobility, and medical disabilities.
  • Knowledge of disability accommodation procedures and strategies for college students with disabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in related area (e.g., counseling, social work, education) or equivalent combination of education and experience/training.
  • Experience maintaining confidential records and communications.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills (e.g. identify issues, make recommendations for improvement and devise new procedures and work methods).Communication skills, both oral and written, to interact and work respectfully and effectively with individuals from diverse social and cultural, backgrounds (students, faculty, staff, family, prospective students, and outside experts/agencies).Knowledge of state/federal requirements for accommodating college students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of and experience in determining/authorizing wide range of academic accommodations at the post-secondary level.
  • Knowledge of public school accommodations that may be part of students' prior educational history.
  • Skill to handle conflict in a respectful manner. Flexibility to support organizational changes, departmental priorities, activities and assignments.
  • Knowledge of University/departmental policies and practices, including ethical requirements.

Department Overview

The Student Disability Center (SDC) oversees the provision of academic accommodations, adjustments, and services for 4500+ students with disabilities to facilitate equal access to the University's educational and residential programs. Through an interactive process, students receive specialized academic support services, disability management counseling, academic advising specific to disability impact, provision of accessible/assistive technology options and training, and other resources as appropriate.
