Substitute Associate Teacher at Catalyst Family

Description

Teachers support the planning and implementation of Catalyst's programming for children ranging from infant to school age depending on location. They facilitate age‑appropriate activities, support social‑emotional development, and ensure children are supervised in a healthy and safe environment.

Essential Functions (Responsibilities)
  • Create and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum supported by learning foundations that align with children’s interests and promote positive development.
  • Create, implement, and maintain intentional, enriched, and supportive learning environments that are age appropriate for all children.
  • Provide excellent customer service by establishing authentic, reciprocal, culturally responsive relationships with children, families, schools, communities, and the center/team.
  • Ensure children remain healthy and safe through proper supervision, positive interactions, healthy habits, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with fellow staff by connecting workplace values, education, and experience to deliver high‑quality programs and creative workplaces.

  • Active engagement in outdoor and indoor programs.
  • Physical and mental ability to interact with children up to 13 years of age.
  • Knowledge and implementation of safety guidelines; report incidents to management; remain calm during emergencies.
Physical & Environmental Conditions
  • Identify hazards and implement preventive actions.
  • Comfortable with occasional loud noise during activities.
  • Comfortable with frequent bending, lifting, twisting, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Capable of pushing, lifting, carrying up to 15 lbs by individual or team effort.
  • Work indoors or outdoors in all safe weather conditions for children.
  • Traverse various terrains (grass, blacktop, dirt) and heights (ladders, playgrounds).
  • Adapt to child’s physical level (sitting, kneeling, squatting) for activities.
  • Supervise field trips to aquatic parks, beaches, trampoline parks, etc.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Education and Permit Requirements
    • 12–24 postsecondary semester or equivalent units in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field with passing grades of C‑ or better.
    • Associate Teacher Permit or higher issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
  • Experience & Skills
    • 6–12 months of experience in group‑care environments with a consistent age group (preferred).
    • Problem‑solving, conflict resolution, classroom management, and communication with children and families.
    • Organization, time management, curriculum planning, and assessment documentation (lesson plans, portfolios, anecdotal notes).
    • Collaboration with colleagues and maintenance of a professional team environment.
    • Current adult and infant/child CPR & First Aid certification (preferred).
    • Bilingual/multilingual capability based on center needs.
Shift Type

Full Time / Part Time

Schedule

Flexible Substitute Schedule with minimum two days availability per week.
