UC Davis Staff Research Associate
Salary or Pay Range: $30.32 - $48.78/hour (Department budgeted salary range: $30.32 - $34.14/hour Commensurate with experience.)
The CAHFS provides California's livestock and poultry industries, and veterinarians who serve them, with diagnostic lab support service for disease control, enhancement of health management, and protection from disease common to animals and humans. The Davis Laboratory is the central reference laboratory for CAHFS, providing a full range of diagnostic procedures for all species of livestock and poultry. The SRA 2- performs diagnostic serologic testing in the CAHFS Immunology Laboratory and participates in all phases of development of new or improved immunology diagnostic techniques, and is routinely involved in independent evaluation of assays and reagents for improvement of current diagnostic services.
Provides back-up support to other laboratory sections as needed.
- Experience performing serological diagnostic test methods including immunodiffusion, serum virus neutralization, complement fixation, ELISA, agglutination, hem agglutination‑inhibition, and indirect immunofluorescence.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills to accurately calculate dilutions and critically evaluate performance, quality control and resolve technical problems related to diagnostic methods.
- Demonstrated knowledge of quality control and quality assurance methods in a diagnostic laboratory that utilizes complex methodology and a Laboratory Information Management System.
- Demonstrated computer skills to quickly and accurately log in specimens, enter test results, maintain laboratory records, operate software integrated equipment and test analyses.
- Demonstrated excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a wide variety of clients and co-workers, both in person and on the telephone.
- Knowledge and skills to work with infectious diseases in a biosafety level 2 facility.
- Graduate degree in Immunology/Biological Sciences or 2-3 years work experience in related field.
- BS degree in Immunology/Biological Sciences or related field, with 1-2 years work experience in related field.
- Experience working in a high‑throughput Veterinary Diagnostic Lab.
- Experience propagating and maintaining cell cultures.
- Demonstrated ability to write and edit standard operating protocols with experience modifying and applying new technologies for practical use in veterinary diagnostics.
- Excellent writing skills necessary to write clear, concise reports of findings and organize data for publication.
