Under supervision of the Small Animal Nursing shift supervisor, provide para veterinary technical support to the Small Animal Clinic Veterinarians. On a daily basis, responsible for the treatment of patients, blood bank support, student instruction, clinician support and facility support.
This position ends 10 months from date of hire with the possibility of extension. This position will be subject to the 1,000‑hour automatic conversion to career.

- Must possess a Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) or obtain within 3 months of date of hire.
- Experience working in a small animal hospital as a veterinary technician or veterinary assistant.
- Experience giving medications.
- Experience drawing blood.
- Interpersonal skills to work with a diverse group of people including clients, clinicians, students and staff.
- Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) (preferred).
- Experience catheterizing blood vessels and urinary tract (preferred).
- Knowledge of common hospital pathogens and methods of disinfection and knowledge of medical terminology and disease processes (preferred).
- Skill to assist in the performance of veterinary medical treatments and procedures (preferred).

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24‑hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.
