Position: Anesthesia Technician (ANML HEALTH TCHN 3 VMTH)

Overview

Job Title:

Anesthesia Technician (ANML HEALTH TCHN 3 VMTH) at University of California, Davis.

The role involves independent work in a hospital setting, providing anesthesia technical support, operating and maintaining anesthesia equipment, and communicating peri-anesthesia concerns to the supervising veterinarian. The position supports the Anesthesia service and other VMTH services as needed, with a collaborative team approach to achieve anesthesia/surgery service objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Provide anesthesia technical support, induce, monitor, maintain and recover anesthetized animals; conduct anesthetic monitoring and record keeping; promptly communicate peri-anesthesia concerns to the supervising veterinarian.
  • Create anesthesia protocols and communicate machine maintenance and supply needs to the anesthesia supervisor.
  • Support other VMTH services when anesthesia is not needed; work cooperatively with others to foster team commitments toward service objectives.
  • Overall distribution of time: 65% Anesthesia Care, 25% Floater, 5% Equipment Maintenance & Stock Supplies, 5% Scheduling.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
  • Valid California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license.
  • No minimum education required.
  • Experience independently treating patients whose conditions can change rapidly; experience in a veterinary hospital performing physical examinations and safe handling of multiple species.
  • Experience calculating drug dosages and administering medications via various routes (IV, subcutaneous, intramuscular, oral).
  • Experience performing venipuncture, placing vascular catheters, inducing/sedating anesthesia, monitoring anesthesia, and recovering patients; ability to restrain and handle dogs, cats; capacity to learn safety around livestock, horses.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to engage diverse students, staff, clinicians, and clients.
  • Experience in a clinical hospital setting with various species performing sedation and anesthesia.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification in Anesthesia.
  • Ability to recognize peri-anesthetic problems and to communicate concerns to the supervising anesthesia veterinarian promptly.
  • Knowledge of normal laboratory values for cats and dogs; desire to learn about livestock and horses.
Key Requirements & Benefits
  • Salary: $28.96 - $43.83 per hour;
    Bi-weekly pay;
    Salary Grade 215.
