The Moore Lab at UC Davis is seeking to hire a post‑doctoral researcher to support an NSF‑funded project that systematically assesses the value of alternate climate information products for adaptation decisions. In collaboration with Adam Sobel and Michael Tippett (Columbia University), the project will evaluate a range of climate data products against a stylized typology of adaptation decisions using a value‑of‑information economic framework.
Post‑doc will lead development of adaptation typologies and work in close collaboration with the Columbia team to develop and evaluate alternate climate data products.
- Lead synthesis of the adaptation literature to develop a typology of stylized adaptation decisions and evaluate the value of alternate climate data products for adaptation.
- Work with Professor Moore to develop specific research goals and approaches, and work largely independently on day‑to‑day research including conducting analysis and preparing results for publication.
- PhD in climate science, atmospheric science, economics, statistics, data science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully conduct independent research.
- Experience with quantification of climate change impacts, potentially including use of historical weather and climate data, application of climate model output, catastrophe models, and/or development of impact/damage functions.
- Demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary work on climate change impacts and adaptation, particularly bridging climate science and environmental economics.
- Proficiency in data analysis, coding, data visualization, and scientific writing.
- Experience using machine learning models for weather forecasting and interest in exploring applications to adaptation and weather risk‑management.
- Ability to work on climate change impacts and adaptation at high levels of abstraction and generalization.
- Familiarity with the value of information framework and/or prior work on decision‑making and use of information for adaptation.
