Job SummarySkilled technical work in the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of complex high voltage electronic and electrical equipment (up to 240 - 480 voltage) used in wastewater treatment or lift stations. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment within established technical standards under the supervision of a Utilities Supervisor. Work is subjected to inspection in progress and upon completion. Wastewater Instrumentation Technicians work on an assigned shift;
however, employees in this classification may be required to work irregular hours in emergency situations.

- Follows suggested procedures to assure the highest standards of risk management, employee safety and risk avoidance
- Repairs, configures, and calibrates electronic equipment such as: various types of flow meters/recorders, generator systems, atmosphere monitoring equipment, variable frequency drives, flow proportioning and high-resolution chemical feed equipment, various types of PLCs and associated devices, as well as independent controllers used in wastewater treatment or wastewater collections; following manufacturers specifications using common hand tools and various types of test instruments
- Tests, repairs, and calibrates faulty equipment and applies knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction; works closely with systems integrator to further diagnose instrument scaling and I/O point checks
- Tests electronic components and circuits to detect and locate defects, using multimeters, 4-20ma signal generators, thermographic camera imaging and heat analysis and oscilloscopes; replaces defective components and wiring and adjusts mechanical parts, using power tools, common hand tools, and soldering irons
- Performs routine preventive maintenance; aligns, adjusts, and calibrates equipment according to manufacturer specifications
- Replaces and repairs SCADA equipment, lift station control panels, reclaimed water pump stations, meter cans, disconnects, junction boxes, and automatic transfer switches which includes low and 3 phase high voltage electrical equipment
- Operates and maintains emergency generators and lift station pumps
- Maintains records of repairs, calibrations, and tests; corrects and updates schematics, electrical prints, and other related paperwork; keeps accurate records of all repairs, preventive maintenance, calibrations, and tests performed
- Submits purchase requisitions to Utilities Supervisor as appropriate and maintains stock of repair parts, tools, and equipment
- Attends National Electric Code (NEC) Training to maintain a working knowledge of the most current NEC requirements and safe practices
