Position: HVAC Control Technician (HVAC CNTRL TCHN)

Job Summary

Under general direction of the Supervisor, provide technical skills and labor to operate, maintain, install and troubleshoot heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) control systems. Provide journey‑level programming knowledge to interface with the existing HVAC control systems (Siemens, Johnson, ALC).

Minimum Qualifications
  • Certificate of completion from a recognized union apprenticeship program, University apprenticeship program, accredited trade school or equivalent experience comparable to a journey‑level HVAC BMS control systems craftsperson.
  • Valid California driver’s license and clean driving record; or enrollment in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
  • No minimum education required.
  • Journey‑level technical experience and knowledge of HVAC systems and controls (e.g., DDC, electromechanical, electronic, pneumatic).
  • Installation and programming of VFDs; experience with 1‑phase/3‑phase 120/208/480 and class‑2 low voltage systems.
  • Experience with steam, hot water, chilled‑water, direct‑expansion air conditioning and chiller systems.
  • Proficiency with testing equipment: voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, airflow meters, temperature and humidity recorders, EMS service tools.
  • Air‑balance skills, knowledge of lock‑out/tag‑out procedures, and ability to read technical data, specifications, blueprints, schematics.
  • Computer skills: workflow data entry, MS Office, and use of control system software/firmware.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of ladder logic programming.
  • Mathematical calculation skills.
