Postdoc in "Improving understanding & model representation of albedo" (f/m/d)
The WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF) is part of the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) and thus of the ETH Domain. WSL focuses on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural hazards. WSL employs approximately 600 people, of whom 180 work at SLF in Davos.
Responsibilities- Implement improved parameterizations of albedo and radiative transfer in glacier surface energy balance models for large‑scale simulations.
- Develop a process‑scale representation of radiative transfer in firn and represent processes at larger scales in models.
- Base parameterizations on existing and new field observations (Swiss Alps and Central Asia), laboratory experiments and process modelling.
- Work with a PhD student on a process‑scale representation of radiative transfer in firn.
- Collaborate with the deFIRN project core team and partners in Europe and Central Asia.
- PhD in environmental science, geoscience, engineering, physics, or a related field.
- Experience in computational data analysis or modelling.
- Interest in the cryosphere and desire to work in the beautiful Swiss mountains.
