Job Description & How to Apply Below
In a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF), we are investigating the impact of the newly discovered process of airborne snow metamorphism (ASM) on the physical properties and isotopic composition of polar snow. This 2‑year Post Doc will develop and implement new model equations describing the evolution of snow microstructure and isotope signals during wind‑driven snow transport. Parameterizing these processes based on laboratory and Antarctic field data and integrating them into the coupled atmosphere‑snow model CRYOWRF will be a central part of the work.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement model equations for ASM processes.
- Parameterize snow microstructure and isotope signals using experimental and field data.
- Integrate processes into the coupled atmosphere‑snow model CRYOWRF.
- Perform advanced numerical simulations to quantify the impact of ASM on polar regions.
- Collaborate with international partners to publish results in scientific journals.
- PhD in atmospheric sciences, physics, environmental engineering or a related field.
- Expertise in numerical modelling and experience with snow or climate models.
- Background in data analysis and process parameterization.
- Strong programming skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of German is beneficial.
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team at the interface of experiments and modelling.
WSL is committed to diversity and inclusion as core values. We actively promote equality and foster an open, inclusive work environment.
