This is an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to join the Regional Learning Disability and Autism Unit at The Brook, Dawlish. The new regional service offers inpatient support to adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. The building is state‑of‑the‑art and the service aims to become a centre of excellence.
Our work is integral to evidence‑based care pathways, including the formulation and planning of Positive Behaviour Support Plans, reducing restrictive practice, STOMP, trauma‑informed care and more. We support the development of capable environments around the needs of our client group. The core business of OT is assessment and intervention to promote engagement in meaningful occupations to maximise health and wellbeing.
Main Responsibilities- Assess and provide OT interventions that improve wellbeing and quality of life by promoting engagement in meaningful activity and inclusion in the community.
- Work within the multi‑disciplinary team, contributing to care planning, risk management and the planning and organisation of daily activities on the ward.
- Participate in the internal rotation system including weekend working and receive paid enhancements associated with this.
- Provide management and clinical support to non‑qualified staff, Occupational Therapy students and apprentices.
- Hold regular OT meetings, linking with wider trust AHPs, enabling regular CPD and learning opportunities.
- Develop skills in the Vona du Toit Model of Creative Ability and sensory integration approaches with trust‑wide clinical governance and peer supervision.
- Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
- Registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Commitment to undertake continuing professional development.
- Experience working in an inpatient Learning Disability, Autism and/or mental health setting.
- Sound theoretical understanding of OT practice and recovery principles within Learning Disability/Autism and/or Mental Health settings.
- Understanding of the role of OT in the multidisciplinary team.
