Robert Service School is a vibrant K–12 learning community of approximately 190 students located in the heart of Dawson City on Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Territory. Our school is supported by a dedicated and diverse team of educators and staff, working in partnership with the RSS/TH Administrative Team, families, and the broader community.

Through Section 17.7 of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Self-Government Agreement, Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in and the Government of Yukon share responsibility for lifelong learning on Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Traditional Territory. Together, we co-govern the administration, design, and delivery of education, creating an integrated learning environment grounded in Dënezhu and local ways of knowing, being, and doing.

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

• Grade 12 graduation or equivalent
• Experience working with children and/or youth
• Experience working with children and/or youth with special needs would be considered an asset
• Post-secondary training in educational assistant, exceptionality worker, special education assistant, early childhood education, or a related field would be considered an asset
• Experience working with neuro-diverse young children, assisting with activities such as lifting, toileting, and/or facilitating physical therapy exercises would be an asset.
• Experience using and/or assisting with assistive technology (ex; AAC device, Clicker 8, Google Read & Write) would be an asset
• Experience working in a Yukon First Nations setting and in teaching First Nations students would be an asset

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:

• Familiarity with Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in culture and in teaching First Nations students;
• Ability to work effectively with students, teachers and parents;
• Adaptability to cope with a wide variety of situations;
• Ability to work as a member of a team;
• Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
• Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments;
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Awareness of the unique challenges of northern education

• Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security clearance including vulnerable sector check.
• Standard First Aid Certificate or a willingness to complete within 3 months
• Completion of the Educational Assistant Module by the end of the school year
