Job Description

The City of Kettering’s Parks Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is recruiting for Temporary Part‑Time Ice Arena Instructor positions at the Kettering Ice Arena. These positions are responsible for instructing Learn to Skate USA group classes, assisting in ice‑arena specialty events, and City of Kettering related ice shows.
Responsibilities- Instructs various levels of Learn to Skate USA group classes and teaches proper ice‑skating skills while maintaining a safe, encouraging environment.
- Has knowledge and understanding of the Learn to Skate USA program.
- Holds current yearly Learn to Skate USA instructor membership and related certifications and passes a Learn to Skate USA background check.
- Is Ohio concussion‑certified and holds a First Aid/CPR certification.
- Organizes class activities and maintains class rosters and attendance records.
- Evaluates skaters on test day and completes appropriate report cards and certificates.
- Assists with class set‑up and clean‑up and carries out additional responsibilities assigned by the Lesson Coordinator.
- Provides regular and predictable on‑site attendance, including Wednesday and Saturday lessons, and attends monthly in‑service trainings.
- Skates at least 3 hours per class day.
- Choreographs or assists in choreographing ice‑show and exhibition numbers and assists at arena specialty events.
- Maintains a professional demeanor on and off the ice and promotes City of Kettering group‑class programs.
- Enforces policies and procedures established by the City of Kettering Parks Recreation and Cultural Arts Department.
- Establishes effective working relationships and communicates positively with skaters, instructors, parents, coordinators, arena staff, city staff, volunteers, and the general public.
• Current knowledge of the Learn to Skate program and ice‑skating fundamentals.
• Ability to teach skating skills to skaters of all levels and ages.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification preferred (will be provided if not current).
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Valid Ohio driver’s license required.
Base pay range: $12.00 /hr – $28.05 /hr. Temporary Part‑Time up to 28 hours per week year‑round.
