Job Summary / Basic Function

Wright State University’s Department of Psychology seeks applicants for a tenure‑track, Assistant Professor in Industrial‑Organizational (I/O) Psychology, beginning 8/1/2026. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Psychology or a related discipline with training in I/O Psychology. The area of specialty is open. ABD candidates will be considered but must have fulfilled the requirements for the Ph.D. by the start date or the offer will be withdrawn.

Applicants should be actively engaged in research and show promise of establishing an externally funded research program. The department offers a Ph.D. and M.S. in Human Factors and I/O Psychology, and a large undergraduate program with four concentrations:
Industrial/Organizational, Clinical Psychology, Cognition and Perception, and Behavioral Neuroscience. Candidates will be expected to teach a mix of undergraduate courses (intro to I/O, research methods, statistics, social psychology) and graduate courses (organizational behavior/psychology).

Additional teaching and research opportunities are available through interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs in Applied Science and Mathematics (IASM) and Biomedical Sciences (BMS) within the College of Science and Mathematics. Research collaborations are available with other colleges, e.g., the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences, and with Air Force Research Laboratory scientists in the Human Performance Directorate.

Location:

Southwest Ohio, close to Dayton, Columbus, and Cincinnati; the Dayton metro area offers extensive parks, outdoor activities, and a quality of life with affordable cost of living.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Psychology or a related discipline (ABD candidates acceptable if Ph.D. completed by start date).
  • Membership in the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology or a closely related discipline.
  • Previously established independent research program.
  • Previous teaching experience.
Essential Functions and Time Allocation
  • Teach graduate and undergraduate classes, mentor graduate students, and establish an independent program of research with potential for external funding.
Time Allocation
  • 40% Research – active engagement in research with potential for external funding; mentor graduate students.
  • 40% Instruction – instruct graduate and undergraduate courses; may include evening or online courses; teaching load subject to satisfactory progress toward tenure.
  • 20% Service – serve on departmental, college, or university committees; attend student events; interact with students outside the classroom (e.g., discuss research/practicum opportunities, graduate school).
