Senior Capital Project EngineerThe Senior Capital Project Engineer will be responsible for planning, supporting, and executing capital project engineering deliverables at the Dayton, OH site. This position focuses on mid to large-scale capital projects from design through startup, overseeing all phases of project management including safety, scheduling, cost control, construction management, and documentation.
This role requires a technically strong and detail-oriented professional who can lead multiple stakeholders, mentor junior engineers, and ensure that all project activities align with organizational standards and best practices.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the development of project scope, schedule, and budget while adhering to company project management processes and best practices.
- Oversee construction, commissioning, and start-up activities, coordinating with operations for troubleshooting and process optimization.
- Perform process engineering and technical analysis for assigned projects to meet operational objectives.
- Lead equipment specification, procurement, and bid package development, ensuring accurate evaluation and award of contracts for equipment and labor.
- Analyze and develop engineering solutions for manufacturing equipment and systems, identifying and addressing component failure causes.
- Design and implement improvements in manufacturing processes, instruments, and equipment to maintain and enhance quality.
- Mentor and coach early-career engineers, providing technical guidance through training and hands‑on project experience.
- Independently handle complex engineering and project management challenges, escalating only the most critical issues.
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards, company policies, and industry regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or related field) or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant engineering experience in project execution or plant engineering.
- 8+ years of related engineering experience in capital project management.
- Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Agricultural/Biosystems Engineering.
- Proven track record of executing large-scale capital projects or managing a portfolio of projects.
- Prior experience in chemical, food, or related process industries.
- Demonstrated ability to work hands‑on in a fast-paced, technical plant environment.
- Strong skills in cost management, process improvement, and stakeholder communication.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically to other plants and locations as needed to support capital projects.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent leadership and communication abilities.
- Proven project management capability with attention to safety and compliance.
- Ability to mentor junior team members and lead multidisciplinary teams effectively.
