Position Summary

The role involves activities aimed at proving a concept to be valid or technically feasible by applying scientific and engineering methodologies. The work typically aims to demonstrate through tests or analyses the performance and implementation potential of a concept. The engineer impacts the quality of their own work and that of others, executing standard operational and technical tasks with some latitude to adapt to changing work situations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
- At least 8 years of composites experience with a comprehensive understanding of related activities involving materials, coatings, and processes
- Knowledge of composites engineering to support policy/strategy implementation
- Basic understanding of key business drivers
- Good understanding of team integration and contribution
- Experience in polymer matrix fabrication and bonding
- Experience serving as a principal investigator
- Active security clearance
- U.S. citizenship due to federal research contract requirements
For R4 level, candidates must meet all R3 qualifications plus:
- At least 12 years of composites experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialized expertise in composites lay-up
- Supervisory experience
- Deep understanding of UDRI policies, procedures, and culture
- Autonomous thinking and action
- Excellent judgment
- Strong communication skills
- Commitment to UD and UDRI's future
- Record of publications in the field
- Experience designing, performing, and analyzing composite tests
- Ability to promote inclusive excellence
