Overview
Blue Halo, an AV Company, has an opportunity available for a Research Scientist to join our ceramics and composites team at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The position focuses on thermo-structural modeling of ceramics and ceramic matrix composites in extreme environments. Proficiency in Abaqus or another commercial structural modeling software (e.g., ABAQUS, ANSYS, Altair Hyper Works) and some experience with scripting in Python or Matlab is necessary.
The ideal candidate will also have experience with multi-physics problems (e.g., combining structural modeling with Computational Fluid Dynamics). The position requires working closely with government and contract researchers within the research team and with other research teams. We are particularly interested in a highly motivated, adaptable, and capable individual with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related fields.
The role involves performing thermo-structural modeling of ceramics and ceramic matrix composites for extreme environments and collaborating with government and contract researchers, as well as other research teams. The candidate should apply multi-physics approaches as appropriate and contribute to project objectives within the ceramics and composites team.
Requirements- Ph.D. (or to be completed in next 6 months) in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Physics, or a related field OR a Master s degree with a minimum of 1–3 years of relevant experience
- Expertise in Abaqus FEM modeling
- Ability to learn and develop new approaches and techniques
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Self-motivated with good interpersonal skills and careful attention to detail
- Adaptable to varying program objectives
