Kelly® Engineering is seeking an Electrical Engineer for a long-term contract-to-hire position at our industrial technology client in Dayton, OH. This engineer will be responsible for architecting and implementing electrical designs in consultation with the system, controls, firmware, and application software teams, in a series of prototyping, design, and production build phases to provide the system with the necessary component hardware.
Work with the product and project managers to ensure that the correct build states are completed as scheduled. The electrical engineer will also be responsible for an in-depth analysis of the design performance while providing guidance and test plans for the design verification and regulatory teams.
This role supports the development of advanced positioning, control, and automation products for construction and mining equipment, leveraging IMUs, GNSS, lasers, optics, and sonics, to deliver precise horizontal and vertical machine guidance from concept design through large-scale production.
Responsibilities- Contributes technical expertise in development of hardware components, including inertial sensor technology such as IMUs.
- Identifies and develops new technologies for new or existing products.
- Responsible for complete design development and documentation.
- Responsible for circuit analysis, bench and validation testing support, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies.
- Assumes leadership role in finding the expeditious resolution of critical complex technical problems.
- Conducts and generates input to the design review.
- Supports the successful transition of completed products to manufacturing by providing pertinent ECNs, contributing to writing test procedures, and designing test fixtures.
- Contributes information and support to presentations to customers and to discussions of technical issues at program reviews. Supplies guidance on technical matters and task schedules.
- Makes presentations to customers and discusses technical issues at program reviews.
- Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or Bachelor’s Degree with equivalent commensurate experience.
- 5-7 years of relevant experience.
- Strong electronic circuit design expertise.
- Strong testing and circuit debugging experience.
- Experience in designing Functional Safety products.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills needed to write technical/functional specifications, test plans, and other documentation.
- Electronic Circuit research experience.
- Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) experience with accelerometers and gyroscopes is beneficial.
- Preferred tools or software: MATLAB, SPICE (PSpice), Agile PLM and Oracle ERP.
- MS Excel (Google Sheets) for bill of materials (BOM) creation, statistics, simple data analysis.
- Word (Google Docs) for constructing test plans and reports.
- PowerPoint (Google Slides) for conveying design ideas and presentations.
- Familiarity with C and C++ firmware development.
