Responsibilities
  • Develop HAPSITE ER and HAPSITE Headspace Sampling System (HSS) educational packages (ePACs) to advance operator knowledge associated with the use of Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) technologies in conducting environmental sampling and interpretation of analytical data for health risk assessments (HRA).
  • Develop HAPSITE ER and HSS Proficiency Analytical Testing (PAT) samples containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) within established methods and limits, supporting customer requirements.
  • Create Thermo Fisher Gemini educational packages (ePACs) to enhance operator knowledge of Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and Raman Spectroscopy for environmental sampling and HRA development.
  • Develop Thermo Fisher Gemini (FTIR/RAMAN) Chemical Analyzer PAT samples for customer training and proficiency.
  • Create HACH DR-1900 Portable Spectrophotometer educational packages (ePACs) to improve operator skills in instrument operation and data interpretation for HRAs.
  • Develop HACH DR-1900 Portable Spectrophotometer PAT samples to support training and proficiency.
  • Research and develop educational packages and answer keys to enhance operator cognitive and deductive reasoning in methodology selection, data evaluation, and risk assessment development.
  • Prepare post-challenge results, reports, and training materials that illustrate proper analysis procedures for PAT samples.
  • Interpret and apply Federal Occupational Exposure Guidelines (OELs), Acute Exposure Guidelines (AEGL), Military Exposure Guidelines (MEGs), and Similar Exposure Groups (SEGs) in occupational and environmental health assessments in deployed environments.
  • Research and develop advanced CBRN skills training to ensure operational readiness and effective risk data interpretation for HRAs and risk communication.
  • Provide SME support to OETR mission, aiding in the development of education and training products for DoD technical training.
  • Support laboratory operations in PAT sample development, ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Environmental Sciences, Health Physics, Chemistry, Physical Science, or related field.
  • Knowledge of developing HRAs and conducting OEHSAs, with proper application of federal exposure guidelines and identification of exposure pathways.
  • Laboratory competency in quality assurance and proficiency testing of samples using HAPSITE ER, HSS, Gemini, and HACH instruments.
  • Ability to research DoD, DHA, federal regulations, and manufacturer manuals for training development.

Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Naval NEPMU Technician/Officer or USAF Bioenvironmental Engineering Officer/Technician with field sampling experience.
  • Experience analyzing occupational and environmental hazards in deployed settings, including risk communication related to TICs, TIMs, HAZMAT, and CWA.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting portable analytical instrumentation.
  • Skilled in writing professional educational and proficiency testing packages for adult learning and training support.
