Test Engineer, Electronics Technician

We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.
Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized, passionate, and hands‑on individual to join our Testing team at Dayton as a Test Technician. As part of the testing team, you will work closely with test engineers to execute testing‑related activities that support reliability and/or other testing on equipment, subsystem, and systems.
Responsibilities- Work closely with Test Engineers to understand test activities needed to plan, develop, and execute product testing.
- Participate in daily and weekly priority alignment meetings to stay in sync with changing needs of the business.
- Provide support in building, bring‑up, and commissioning of various test stands including, but not limited to, electrical, mechanical, and other related work.
- Maintain test execution log and ensure that critical observations are properly documented and communicated to the broader team.
- When issues are encountered while executing a test, aid in troubleshooting test stand and instrumentation.
- Ensure test enabling equipment are in proper working condition and are calibrated as needed.
- Own Standard Operating Procedure for assigned Test Assets.
- Set up, execute, and monitor validation and reliability tests at component and system level as per approved test plan.
- Close out assigned Jira tickets for test and lab related activities.
- Procure and maintain necessary tools and hardware to keep the testing area organized and efficient.
- Be the assigned area champion and embrace lab 5S philosophy and ensure it is well maintained.
- High school diploma / GED or higher.
- 3+ years of demonstrated work experience in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience with general instrumentation such as thermocouple / thermistor, accelerometer, strain gauges, wiring harness, etc.
- Hands‑on exposure to general electrical test equipment such as multimeter, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, Hi‑Pot tester, etc.
- Ability to be hands‑on with experience in soldering, wiring, and building/debugging to print.
- Experience in troubleshooting electrical/mechanical or other issues related to test equipment.
- Exposure to environmental chambers or similar test assets including operation, maintenance, and repair.
- Ability to maintain a positive can‑do attitude and work with cross‑functional teams.
- Experience in using hand/power tools and perform other duties as assigned.
- Prior experience performing FAA DO‑160 testing or other testing.
- Prior experience handling HV equipment.
- Experience with LabVIEW GUI for data acquisition.
Compensation is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $29–$40/hour. The compensation package will be determined by job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
