About the Position

Kintara is partnering with a rapidly growing manufacturer of custom low- and medium-voltage switch gear and electrical power distribution solutions serving industrial, utility, and commercial customers throughout the United States.

We are seeking a Lead Electrical Design Engineer to take ownership of electrical design projects from initial customer specifications through final manufacturing release.

This is a hands-on technical leadership position focused on designing custom switch gear systems, developing electrical drawings, configuring protection and control systems, and ensuring equipment meets applicable industry standards.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in electrical power distribution, switch gear design, and protective relaying, along with the ability to lead projects, collaborate with manufacturing teams, and mentor developing engineers.

This opportunity offers significant technical ownership, direct involvement throughout the manufacturing process, and the ability to help shape engineering practices as the organization continues to grow.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the electrical design process for custom low- and medium-voltage switch gear and power distribution equipment.
  • Develop and maintain single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control schematics, and detailed wiring diagrams.
  • Translate customer specifications and project requirements into complete electrical designs and manufacturing documentation.
  • Configure and program protective relays and control systems, including equipment from SEL, ABB, Siemens, and Schneider Electric.
  • Perform short-circuit, protective device coordination, and arc flash studies using software such as SKM, ETAP, or Easy Power.
  • Review electrical designs, drawings, and documentation to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Apply UL 891, UL 1558, ANSI C37, IEEE, and NEC requirements throughout the design process.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering, production, and project management teams to support successful project execution.
  • Provide technical support during equipment manufacturing, testing, troubleshooting, and field startup.
  • Review and approve electrical drawings and design packages prior to manufacturing release.
  • Mentor junior engineers and electrical drafters while helping establish consistent engineering practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, documentation standards, and engineering workflows.
  • Manage multiple engineering projects while maintaining quality and delivery expectations.
Who You Are
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 5–10+ years of experience in electrical engineering, switch gear design, power distribution, or industrial electrical systems.
  • Strong understanding of low- and medium-voltage switch gear, electrical distribution equipment, and protection and control systems.
  • Experience developing single-line, three-line, control, and wiring diagrams.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or comparable electrical design software.
  • Experience configuring and programming protective relays, ideally with SEL, ABB, Siemens, or Schneider Electric equipment.
  • Familiarity with short-circuit analysis, protective coordination studies, and arc flash calculations.
  • Working knowledge of UL 891, UL 1558, ANSI C37, IEEE, and NEC standards.
  • Ability to interpret customer specifications and translate technical requirements into manufacturable electrical designs.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, particularly involving electrical equipment and control systems.
  • Comfortable working directly with manufacturing, testing, and project…
