Lab Staff Assistant II – Part Time – 1st Shift

Job Details: The Laboratory Staff Assistant II (LSA II) performs phlebotomy, specimen management, and EKG testing services for patients ranging from neonate to adult. The LSA II independently performs a variety of waived laboratory tests and their associated controls, requiring basic laboratory technique knowledge to produce reliable, accurate results that assist providers in diagnosis and treatment. The position supports all Dayton Children’s Hospital (DCH) locations, including main and south campuses, testing centers, Lab Link, Outreach, and other clinical sites, and may include travel to different DCH locations.

Department: Outreach/Offsite

Schedule: Part time
Hours: 20

Responsibilities:

  • Perform phlebotomy, specimen collection, and management for a broad patient population.
  • Conduct EKG testing services.
  • Independently perform waived laboratory tests and their controls.
  • Maintain QA/QC for laboratory operations, complying with all regulatory agency standards and DCH guidelines.
  • Use Sunquest (LIS) functions, EPIC patient registration, and order transcription.
  • Ensure all certification, training, and QA/QC monitoring meet Dayton Children’s Hospital requirements.

Education: GED or High School diploma required

Experience: 0–2 years required

Phlebotomy Experience Preferred: Pediatric phlebotomy, capillary and venipuncture technique preferred; specimen processor, patient registration, scheduling, customer service, and clinical lab experience preferred

Certifications/Licenses:

  • CPR certification within 30 days of hire required
  • Phlebotomy certificate within 1 year of hire required
  • Completion of pediatric phlebotomy patient training program provided
  • EKG training provided
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred

Certification/License Requirements: CPR (American Heart Association), Phlebotomy Certification – Various
