Chief Systems Engineer

Epsilon C5I (), a division of Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc., is a 100 percent employee‑owned company founded in 1998 that serves the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Department of Homeland Security, non‑profit and commercial customers. The Dayton division recently became one of only five prime awardees for the 10‑year, $4.7 billion NOVASTAR contract supporting the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC), WPAFB, Ohio.

The Dayton division is currently searching for a Chief Systems Engineer to provide guidance and expertise in developing computer systems architectural design in accordance with DoD ICD
705 standards and to develop, implement, and enforce systems security policies, standards, and methodologies.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Lead the architecture and design of scalable, high‑performance exploitation capabilities within the IC.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define system requirements and translate them into architectural solutions.
  • Develop and implement architectural guidelines, standards, and best practices.
  • Oversee the integration of new technologies and systems into the existing and new infrastructure.
  • Ensure the security, scalability, and sustainability of all system architectures.
  • Mentor and guide technical teams, fostering innovation and excellence.
  • Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes to ensure high‑quality system delivery.
  • Maintain a forward‑looking perspective on industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers to maintain high coding standards.
  • Document model development processes, results, and best practices for knowledge sharing and reproducibility.
  • Assist in creating technical documentation and presentations to communicate findings and progress to stakeholders.
  • Ensure security best practices are integrated into the development lifecycle, including compliance with data protection regulations.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field and 7 or more years of prior relevant experience.
  • 7 or more years of experience in Systems Architecture or a similar role in a complex, large‑scale environment.
  • Active DoD Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI access and the ability to attain a polygraph.
  • U.S. Citizen.
  • In‑depth knowledge of system architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in cloud computing, distributed systems, and microservices architecture.
  • Strong understanding of security, compliance, and data privacy standards.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to navigate complex technical challenges.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation capabilities.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Java.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Familiarity with Agile, Dev Sec Ops  practices and tools like Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Effective collaboration with cross‑functional teams and ability to present solutions to stakeholders.
  • Prioritization of tasks, management of deadlines, and handling of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and adapting to new technologies and methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field and 10 or more years of prior relevant experience.
  • 10 or more years in systems architecture with leadership roles.
  • Extremely strong understanding of scalable microservices architectures in a Kubernetes environment.
  • Understanding of UI/UX and full‑stack development.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive technological innovation within an organization.
  • Recognized expert technologist with 10+ years of experience in mission software solutions related to data science, machine learning, or similar technology.
  • Agile‑based knowledge and skill, including Scrum ceremonies and work management tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence).
  • Familiarity with AI/ML models to process and analyze large datasets.
  • Previous IC or DoD program/project work experience.
ADA Notations
  • Regular communication (hearing/speaking).
  • Noise conditions range from very quiet to noisy.
  • Prolonged use of computer (typing/keyboarding).
  • Frequently required to sit for long periods of time, stand, walk, and may occasionally lift and move at least 25 pounds.
  • Ability to travel by car, air or other means of transportation, if required.
