Overview
Datacenter Research Analyst, US focused. This role will support the S&P Technology Media and Telecom Datacenter Services and Infrastructure analyst team in covering the trends and technologies driving the US datacenter markets.
Datacenter markets around the world continue to see explosive growth thanks to expansions of the hyperscale / cloud providers. Increasingly these expansions will be to accommodate artificial intelligence type hardware (GPU-based compute) as well as other compute types. We are seeking a dynamic researcher to help further our coverage of this critically important segment.
Responsibilities- This role will conduct industry analyst research on the datacenter market and its trends, working both independently and in collaboration within a geographically dispersed, global team.
- The focus of coverage will center on trends in the various datacenter markets around the US. Specifically:
- Assessing build pipelines to understand who is building what, and how big
- Understanding pricing dynamics for the various colocation providers
- Understanding vacancy rates within a market and the various dynamics influencing this
- Writing is essential to this role and will include research and publication of both short (2-page) and long (10-25 page) reports on datacenter markets and providers, as well as on broader industry topics as relevant
- Short reports will publish regularly and more frequently (approximately weekly); longer reports would be less frequent and planned in advance
- End-user survey work is a potentially important element of this role. The successful candidate will play a role in developing ongoing survey research with end-users and analyze and deliver research reports based on the results
- Engage in briefings with key vendors and attend events (virtual, or other events contingent on travel conditions) focused on covered segments of the datacenter markets and explain industry trends
- Respond to inquiry requests from market vendors and enterprise users
- Contribute to custom advisory research projects
- Collaborate with fellow analysts on topics that cross practice boundaries, for example the impact of datacenters on power utilities
- 1–2+ years’ experience in datacenter services and infrastructure with sufficient knowledge to communicate credibly to practitioners, vendors and investors
- Ability to provide writing samples appropriate to the S&P TMT audience; familiarity with 451 Research and its outputs is preferred
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); fluency in Spanish or Portuguese is a plus
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in a technical field (math, science, engineering, IT) or business/writing/communications with relevant experience
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as conditions permit
- Strong curiosity and proactive approach to learning and exploration
- Experience in product management, product marketing, or practitioner roles in related fields
- Experience in market intelligence, competitive intelligence, strategy or business development within a datacenter services vendor
- Journalism or technical writing experience in these fields
- Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel skills; public speaking experience
Compensation:
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $78,492 to $109,846, with variability by geographic location. This role is eligible for S&P Global benefits and additional benefits as described by the company.
