Position Overview

EAGLE is seeking a Food Safety Management System Technical Manager to provide subject‑matter expertise and technical oversight across all food safety certification programs. This role is responsible for ensuring auditor competency, audit consistency, and certification decisions that fully comply with accreditation and scheme‑owner requirements.

The Technical Manager acts as a central liaison between auditors, clients, Certification Program Owners (CPOs), and internal leadership, driving quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement throughout the Technical Department.

Key Responsibilities

The Technical Manager oversees the full lifecycle of auditor management, including onboarding, qualification, calibration, ongoing competency assessment, and performance improvement. This role is responsible for maintaining auditor records and credentials in accordance with accreditation requirements, supporting auditor development, managing corrective actions, and overseeing auditor exits when necessary. The position also supports internal and external communications, including newsletters and technical updates.

In addition, the Technical Manager provides technical support across all departments. This includes supporting internal and external audits, implementing new or revised programs, interpreting scheme and regulatory requirements, and ensuring that all audits, technical reviews, and certification decisions meet the expectations of scheme owners such as SQF, BRCGS, FSSC 22000, GLOBALG.A.P., and ISO programs. The role involves troubleshooting complex audit scenarios, providing escalation support for high‑risk sites, appeals, disputes, complaints, and nonconformances, and leading initiatives that strengthen audit consistency and report quality.

The Technical Manager partners closely with Operations to improve workflow efficiency and auditor scheduling, serves as a technical resource for clients and business development activities, and liaises with certification program owners, accreditation bodies, and industry partners. This role also supports strategic initiatives, new program development, and food safety event management, including escalation to the Crisis Management Team when required.

Training and development are a key component of this role. The Technical Manager supports internal and external training efforts, contributes to EAGLE Boot Camp, and provides mentoring and standards‑based training to staff and auditors.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Engineering, or a related field (master's degree preferred) and have a minimum of 5–7 years of experience in food safety, quality assurance, auditing, or certification. Qualified auditor status in at least one GFSI‑recognized scheme (such as SQF, BRCGS, or FSSC 22000) or equivalent industry experience is required.

Preferred qualifications include experience as a Lead Auditor or Technical Reviewer within a Certification Body, a strong understanding of accreditation standards (ISO/IEC 17065, 17021, 19011), multi‑scheme credentials or regulatory experience (FDA/USDA), experience mentoring auditors, project or process improvement expertise, and strong technology skills, including familiarity with platforms such as Power BI.

We offer competitive pay, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan with a company annual contribution, paid time off, volunteer time off, bereavement leave, and 10 paid holidays.
