JV Volleyball Coach

Preble Shawnee Local Schools is seeking an energetic, student‑focused individual to serve as the Junior Varsity Volleyball Coach for Preble Shawnee High School. The coach works closely with the Head Varsity Volleyball Coach and Athletic Department to promote a positive, safe, and educational athletic environment.
QUALIFICATIONS- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Ohio Certification/Licensure by the State of Ohio, Department of Education
- Previous experience as a coach or player in the specific sport(s) being coached
- Strong knowledge of the rules, strategies, and techniques of the sport(s) being coached
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to motivate, inspire, and build positive relationships with student‑athletes
- Understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in athletics
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting student development
- Ability to follow directions, maintain confidentiality, and uphold professional standards
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License
- Must pass criminal background check
- Ohio Department of Education Pupil Activity Permit (PAP)
- CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification
- Fundamentals of Coaching (NFHS)
- Concussion in Sports (NFHS)
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training (Lindsay’s Law)
- Plan, organize, and implement daily practices and game strategies
- Teach fundamental volleyball skills and advanced techniques appropriate for high school athletes
- Supervise and mentor assistant and JV coaches
- Monitor academic performance and eligibility of student‑athletes
- Promote character development, discipline, and sportsmanship
- Maintain equipment and manage inventory
- Organize team transportation, game scheduling, and communication with parents and school personnel
- Represent the school positively at all athletic and community events
- Ensure compliance with school policies, OHSAA regulations, and safety standards
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director for scheduling, budgeting, and program needs
- Attend all required meetings, trainings, and professional development
- Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
- Conduct and present the position in a professional manner
- Maintain a positive work attitude
- Effectively use verbal, nonverbal, writing, and listening skills
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
- Physical ability to conduct practices and coach during games
- Travel may be required for away games and tournaments
- Actively seek to acquire knowledge and skills to meet new challenges through involvement in professional development activities
- Is punctual and thorough in implementation of all assigned duties

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENTOccasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue; lifting supplies (10–50 pounds); exposure to adverse weather; potential exposure to blood‑borne pathogens; interaction with disruptive individuals.
Periodic exposure to loud noise, extreme temperatures, chemical irritants, fumes, and unruly children and adults; vehicle operation; traveling; prolonged computer use; extended hours; time constraints.
Frequent standing, lifting (10–20 pounds); bending, stooping, reaching; adherence to Board safety rules; participation in school safety training.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTSalary as per the salary schedule in effect. Employee must remain free of alcohol or non‑prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout employment in the District.
