Obtain a State of Ohio Educational Aide's Certificate (acquired after employment).
This school route may include wheelchairs, car seats, safety vest, ISS and work study, gifted and talented or other programs
- Assists bus driver with the loading and unloading of students during the daily bus routes; assists students when necessary to cross to and from the curb.
- Lifts students up to fifty (50) lbs and move up to fifty (50) feet in a safe manner using proper techniques.
- Operates wheelchair lifts, wheelchair anchoring mechanism, restraints, safety seats, safety belts, etc.
- Pushes or pulls student with a wheelchair on or off lifts and/or ramps and transports as required.
- Monitors and assists the driver with behavior of students while on vehicle (e.g., handles discipline, behavior, and health problems, attends to special needs of students, recognizes emergency situations, etc.).
- Prepares written referral or behavior reports and delivers to the appropriate person (e.g., administrator, parent, etc.).
- Works and cooperates with school personnel and/or parents regarding discipline problems.
- Checks and ensures each student is appropriately seated before bus movement and maintains that seating throughout the route.
- Assists driver in emergencies; helps evacuate bus through emergency doors, windows and hatches as required; obtains emergency assistance as necessary.
- Assists bus driver and substitute drivers in traveling correct route
- Assists driver in communicating with teachers, families, administrators, care givers, etc. (e.g., schedule changes, route changes, breakdowns, etc.).
- Checks each seat for remaining students and/or belongings after each route.
- Follows safety procedures for students transportation in accordance with State and Local Boards of Education rules and regulations.
- Maintains State of Ohio Educational Aide Permit.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance and work ethics.

As a contracted employee, this position works 4 hours per day (minimum). This is a floater position and does not have an assigned route.
Starting salary is $19.29 per hour.
