Job SummaryThis is a temporary part‑time teaching position in the Department of Communication Studies, Theatre, & Dance. Teaching opportunities during the summer may be available depending on enrollment but are not guaranteed. The role involves teaching Dance Studies Minor courses and participating as an active member of the department with a commitment to quality instruction.
Duties / Responsibilities- Teach courses in dance studies including introduction to the art of dance, ballet, contemporary dance technique, jazz dance, African dance technique, tap, hip‑hop dance, dance production, dance composition, sacred dance & dance as worship, African American dance, and dance history.
- Prepare course materials such as syllabi, presentations, and assignments in collaboration with other faculty.
- Deliver student‑centered learning through the use of Canvas and other learning management systems.
- Administer and grade formative and summative assessments and provide feedback.
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours for students.
- Support college and departmental activities and services with leadership, commitment, accountability, and collegiality.
- Teach in evenings when required.
- At least two years of professional teaching experience.
- Demonstrated ability to engage students beyond the classroom.
- Active commitment to the life of the university.
- Adjunct instructors are not eligible for tenure.
- Master’s degree in Dance Studies or a related field from a nationally accredited university or college.
- Commensurate professional experience and the potential to become an excellent teacher and student mentor.
- Experience teaching historically disadvantaged populations.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Prepared to teach a variety of communication courses.
- Ability to teach day and evening classes and to serve on university‑wide committees.
Standing, seating, and movement during teaching, learning, and advising in classroom and office settings.
