Job Description
** The Opportunity
** The Aerospace Engineering Department in the College of Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) – Daytona Beach invites applications for a non-tenure-track (NTT) faculty position in the area of Space Systems. It is anticipated that this teaching faculty position will be filled at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, although more experienced candidates may be considered. Candidates must hold a terminal degree in engineering, with preference given to those candidates who hold a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering.
For this position, however, the Ph.D. degree could be replaced by an M.S. and substantial industry experience. Preference will be given to a candidate who will lead a student-based, small satellite (e.g., Cube Sat) development program with a regular cadence. Therefore, the program will encompass the full life cycle of small satellite development to include conceptual and hardware design, fabrication and testing, spacecraft deployment and operations, and ultimately, decommissioning.
The successful candidate will also teach related undergraduate courses in the astronautics track, such as Spacecraft Design, Spacecraft Systems, and Space Environmental Applications. The department seeks candidates who can expand its expertise in small satellite development, deliver student-centered teaching, and who have a keen interest in undergraduate student engagement.
** About the Department of Aerospace Engineering
** The Aerospace Engineering Department is the largest in the nation with an enrollment of about 2,500 full-time students. The department offers Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. degrees, including 71 students in the Ph.D. program. The undergraduate program is currently ranked #4 by U.S. News and World Report, while the graduate program is ranked #28, and our research expenditures have more than tripled over the last five years.
Also, the University has invested in a new 50,000 square foot engineering building, the John Mica Engineering and Aerospace Innovation Complex (Mica Plex), housing several research laboratories (), a state-of-the-art subsonic wind tunnel, and a new Flight Research Center facility, all as part of a Research Park with incubator space and growing industry engagement, creating an ecosystem to support innovation and entrepreneurship.
The College of Engineering empowers students to become engineering leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs. Home to more than 3,500 students and one of the nation's best undergraduate Aerospace Engineering programs, our vision is to shape the future of the aerospace industry. We pride ourselves on our commitment to groundbreaking aerospace research and innovation, as well as our supportive and inclusive learning community.
