Minimum RequirementsProfessional Experience
Work with individuals with disabilities in advocacy and/or employment‑related roles.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Business, Psychology, Education, Public Safety, or Criminology
* and* 2 years of professional experience.
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in relevant fields
* and* 1 year of professional experience.
Applicants for employment or volunteer positions must undergo level 2 background screening as a condition of employment or volunteering. Screening includes fingerprinting for statewide criminal, juvenile, and federal records checks. Candidates will receive consent and affidavit forms and must submit fingerprints before employment or volunteering begins.
ResponsibilitiesSenior VR Counselors provide professional vocational rehabilitation counseling to individuals with disabilities to help them achieve employment goals. They assess medical, psychological, and vocational information to determine service eligibility and develop individualized employment plans. The role involves coordinating and negotiating services, conducting job placement activities, and building relationships with employers and community partners.
Senior VR Counselors manage client information and case records, provide technical assistance to internal and external customers, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Effective communication, data analysis, and career counseling skills are essential. They must balance multiple priorities, work productively under tight deadlines, and maintain a goal‑directed approach. In‑person attendance is essential for this position.
Knowledge, Skill, and AbilitiesKnowledge of vocational rehabilitation guidance and counseling theories, interviewing techniques, medical and psychological aspects of disability groups, effective communication principles, employment resources, and data compilation, organization, and analysis.
Ability to compile, organize and analyze medical, vocational, and psychological data; administer tests and analyze results; provide counseling and guidance in career planning; develop individual rehabilitation programs and place clients in appropriate vocations; communicate effectively; and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
