Role OverviewAs an Engineering Manager, you will lead the expanding MAAS team, delivering the Metal as a Service platform that brings cloud‑style, on‑demand API provisioning to private bare‑metal infrastructure. MAAS is a rapidly evolving stack written in Python and Go, spanning hardware detection, provisioning, web interface, API, and CLI.
Responsibilities- Lead a distributed engineering team organized by time zone (Americas, EMEA, etc.)
- Develop and mentor talent through coaching, feedback, and career planning
- Manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
- Advocate and advance modern software development practices
- Participate in engineering process through code and architectural reviews
- Engage with broader teams at Canonical, the open‑source community, and partners
- Travel to internal and external global events for 4 to 6 weeks per year
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or related field
- Proven experience delivering software with Python, Golang, or similar languages
- Experience with Linux system administration (Debian or Ubuntu preferred)
- Familiarity with modern Linux cloud computing technologies – networking, storage, containers, and K8s
- Technical aptitude for complex distributed systems
- Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
- Experience with agile software development methodologies
- Ability to mentor, develop, and support team members
Result‑oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments - Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long
- Typescript and modern web frameworks (React, Angular, Svelte, Vue)
- Data center infrastructure management and design
- Distributed work environment with twice‑yearly in‑person team sprints
