St. Norbert College (SNC), a nationally ranked, private, Catholic, liberal arts college, is seeking an HVAC Technician. This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, steam boilers, and chiller systems across the college campus. It requires advanced technical expertise in HVAC, boiler, and chiller operations, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to manage complex building systems that support a large educational environment.

The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with a broad range of HVAC equipment, steam boilers, and chiller systems, and be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

The hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 6:00 am - 2:30 pm.

Specific responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, steam boilers, and chiller units across campus facilities.

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance, including inspections, cleaning, adjustments, and system testing to ensure peak performance.

  • Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot high- and low-pressure steam boilers, maintaining logs, performing water treatment, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

  • Oversee and maintain campus chiller systems (air-cooled and water-cooled), including diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues.

  • Respond to emergency repair requests and diagnose system failures using tools and HVAC software such as Metasys.

  • Optimize system efficiency by evaluating performance, adjusting settings, and recommending upgrades to improve energy use and sustainability.

  • Assist with or lead system upgrades and installations during renovation and expansion projects.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and compliance requirements.

  • Train and mentor HVAC technicians on complex HVAC, boiler, and chiller systems.

Supervision Exercised Over
  • Functional supervision over 2 Maintenance Mechanic - HVAC full-time positions.

  • Oversight, bidding, and scheduling with vendors/HVAC trade partners and their work.

Required

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education preferred.

  • HVAC certification (e.g., NATE, EPA 608) and Boiler Operator certification preferred; additional training in steam boilers or chiller systems a plus.

  • 5+ years of experience with HVAC, steam boilers, and chiller systems, including troubleshooting and repair, ideally in educational, commercial, or institutional settings.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude; proficient with HVAC diagnostic tools and knowledgeable in energy‑efficient and sustainable system practices.

  • Working knowledge of safety protocols, ASME codes, OSHA standards, building codes, and environmental regulations.

  • Experience with HVAC control software (e.g., Metasys) preferred.

  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills; ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work independently or as part of a team.

  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced and sometimes noisy environment, lift heavy equipment, and work in confined spaces or at heights.
