Position: Paraprofessional - Center Based A - 0.5 FTE

Paraprofessional - Center Based

Position Function:
The Center-Based Paraprofessional assists in the implementation of intensive instructional programs, including assisting with daily living and behavioral skills, and sometimes providing medical care under the direction of a licensed nurse.

Qualifications Profile:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with children, preferred
  • Current Certification of Health, including negative TB test
  • Completion of clear, criminal background check

Starting Salary: $17.50/hour - commensurate with experience

Job Category:
Classified, 174 workday calendar, 3.75 hrs/day (18.75 hrs/week)

Requirements:

  • All employees must have a current TB test (Tuberculosis). If you've had a recent TB Test (less than 12 months ago) we can accept a copy of your test results. If it's been more than 1 year ago, you will be required to obtain a new test. Employees are responsible for the cost of the test.
  • Must submit pre-employment physical prior to first day of work.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing
  • Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push conditions heavy objects or materials up to 20 pounds
  • Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching
  • Must work in noisy and crowded environments
  • Assist in facilitating the personal, social, and intellectual development of students

Job Functions:

  • Assist in establishing a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of the students
  • Operate required equipment appropriately
  • React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned
  • Assist in the instruction and supervision of students
  • Assist with small group instruction
  • Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback
  • Prepare instructional materials and supplies for use
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others
  • Implement behavior plans for students that have been designed by the behavior team
  • Assist students with challenging and/or aggressive behaviors
  • Assist students in personal care needs due to medical conditions and physical limitations
  • Attends professional development as required
  • Attends staff meetings as required
  • Other duties as assigned by the special services teacher and/or principal
