Westwood Community School District is a public school district that serves K-12 students. Responsibilities
  • Army JROTC Instructor is responsible for implementing the overall JROTC unit program according to national and state standards. Works with other assigned instructors to promote cadet intellectual, social, patriotic, character education, and physical growth. Implements the military service’s national education curriculum and program requirements, including preparation, planning, coordination, and supervision of all co-curricular service-learning, special activities or events.
  • Serve as a Learning Coach to a designated home group of students through regular Coaching for Learning and data-led conversations (1-to-1 and group). Act as an advocate for these students during planning of teaching and learning and provide guidance, support, and encouragement to ensure success and achievement.
  • Senior Army Instructor (SAI) and Army Instructor (AI) functions and responsibilities include: establishing standard operating procedures for JROTC administration, control, and training; advising school authorities on policy changes; maintaining relations with school authorities, faculty, and students; conducting public affairs efforts to promote understanding of JROTC, the school, and the Army; enrolling students in JROTC and supporting curriculum and extracurricular activities; preparing weekly training schedules;

    maintaining parental contact for Cadets with academic or behavioral issues; ensuring unit areas are neat and secure; sharing teaching responsibilities; maintaining required forms and reports; and managing equipment accountability according to regulations.
  • Additional guidance for the SAI: rules and orders relating to JROTC instruction, coordination with the senior school official, and duties related to the Corps of Cadets; appointment, promotion, and demotion processes; and ensuring appropriate approval of orders by the head of the school.
  • In some configurations, SAI/AIs may not be required to serve as the Commandant of Cadets or tactical officer; the organization of the Corps is a joint responsibility of the SAI, tactical officer, and commandant.
  • In independent JROTC programs, the SAI may serve as the Government Purchase Card Holder or Approving Official for JROTC program budgets.
Required Qualifications
  • Eligible to obtain Federal JROTC instructor certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree;
    Master’s preferred.
  • Military Education Level (MEL-4) (Command and General Staff College) desired; or CSM Academy.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and automation technology skills.
  • Willing to wear the appropriate Service uniform and meet grooming standards as outlined in Service Regulations.
  • Demonstrated troop-level experience and executive staff experience.
Physical Demands
  • The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds in supplies, which requires bending, stooping and lifting.
  • The employee must be able to use a variety of instructional materials in the classroom.
  • The employee must use hands and arms to manipulate objects.
  • The employee must use keyboards, tools and other controls.
  • The employee must sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • The employee must have normal vision and hearing with or without aid.
  • The employee must be able to move about the assigned location unaided during the day.
Work Environment
  • The noise level in the work environment will vary and can range from soft to loud; often moderate to loud.
  • The employee is required to interact with students, staff, parents/guardians and occasionally with the public.
  • At times, the employee may be directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.
Terms and Conditions of Employment
  • Ten-month school year
  • Salary to be according to the current contract with Wayne County MEA/NEA
