Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineer
Ford’s Electric Vehicles, Digital and Design (EVDD) team is charged with delivering the company’s vision of a fully electric transportation future. EVDD is customer‑obsessed, entrepreneurial, and data‑driven and is dedicated to delivering industry‑leading customer experience for electric vehicle buyers and owners. You’ll join an agile team of doers pioneering our EV future by working collaboratively, staying focused on only what matters, and delivering excellence day in and day out.
Join us to make positive change by helping build a better world where every person is free to move and pursue their dreams.
The Electrified Propulsion Engineering (EPE) organization is responsible for delivering the best fuel economy and refined Hybrid, Plug‑in Hybrid and Electric vehicles in every segment in which we contend. We strive to consistently provide the best customer vehicle value and profitability while delivering performance, durability, and fuel economy/range objectives. Take advantage of this opportunity to work in one of the most dynamic and growing organizations in Ford and to further Ford’s ‘Power of Choice’ initiative.
What you’ll do…
Design and iterate BMS hardware subsystems (cell sensing, passive/active balancing, pack power distribution, pre‑charge/isolation circuits, contactor control, isolation monitoring, current sensing and protection).
Author and release high‑quality engineering artifacts: schematics, PCB layouts, BOMs, assembly drawings, and detailed change records that meet safety, manufacturability, and cost targets.
Perform Worst Case Circuit Analysis (WCCA) for circuits: define assumptions, compile component tolerance stacks, run worst case and Monte Carlo simulations (SPICE/statistical tools), analyze environmental and aging effects, and document margins and mitigations in formal WCCA reports.
Bring up and validate hardware in the lab: design test fixtures, develop and execute functional and environmental test plans (thermal, vibration, EMC/EMI pre‑compliance), collect and analyze data, and close design gaps through iterative updates.
Work closely with software and system integration teams to define and verify ADC timing, sampling strategies, communication, diagnostics, and HW–SW interfaces; support hardware/software co‑debugging during bring‑up.
Apply ISO 26262 functional safety processes in day‑to‑day work: contribute to HARA/ASIL discussions, derive and trace hardware safety requirements, support DFMEA/FMEDA activities, and produce hardware verification evidence needed for safety cases.
Implement and verify diagnostic coverage and fault handling features (watchdogs, redundancy, self‑test, isolation fault detection) and ensure designs meet target ASIL requirements where applicable.
Drive root cause analysis for failures in lab and field, define corrective actions, and implement design, test, and supplier changes to prevent recurrence.
Optimize designs for cost, manufacturability, testability, and supply chain robustness; evaluate and qualify components and collaborate with suppliers on components, prototypes, and design transfers.
Create and maintain production test plans and automated test fixtures; work with manufacturing and test engineering to ramp products, stabilize yields, and resolve quality escapes.
Document technical decisions, tradeoffs, and test evidence; present design status and risk mitigation to cross‑functional stakeholders and participate in design reviews and gate reviews.
Mentor junior engineers and technicians through hands‑on guidance during bring‑up, test, and documentation activities; contribute to continuous improvement of hardware design and validation processes.
You’ll have…
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
3+ years’ experience in high voltage battery systems.
3+ years’ relevant hardware design or validation experience.
Familiarity with ISO 26262 functional safety concepts.
You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we’ve outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we…
