Michigan Water Practice:Our projects involve supporting the Public and Private sectors with a focus on stormwater conveyance including alternative delivery projects. This is a unique opportunity to oversee all aspects of water projects with a diverse project / client base that has the potential for significant growth. Primary responsibilities include operational oversight, technical thought leadership, staff development, business and strategy development, client management, profit, loss, and leadership.
What We’re Looking For:Michael Baker International is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Project Manager to lead water resources projects within the state of Michigan and the Great Lakes region. This is a high-impact role for a professional who is passionate about solving complex water-related challenges and delivering resilient infrastructure solutions.
As the Senior Project Manager on our team, you will oversee the planning, design, and modeling of projects including flood control, stormwater management, climate resiliency, and stream restoration. Your responsibilities will include leading advanced hydrologic and hydraulic modeling (1D/2D) efforts using tools (i.e.: HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, and Hydro
CAD); review the preparation of engineering plans, technical reports, and permit applications; conducting site assessments and feasibility studies; and managing project budgets, schedules, and deliverables. You will be working closely with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies in this role, while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.

What You’ll Do:- Influence high-profile water projects and mentor future leaders
- Prepare and review engineering plans, specifications, and technical reports.
- Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using industry-standard software.
- Perform site assessments and field investigations.
- Develop project scopes, cost estimates, and feasibility studies.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to team development.
- Support proposal development and client presentations.
- Support business development efforts and proposal preparation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (master’s preferred)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- 8+ years of design and CADD workstation experience
- Proven project management experience with client-facing responsibilities
- 2D modeling experience is preferred
- 5+ years of experience in water resources engineering
- Proficiency in HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, XP-SWMM, and GIS (Proficiency in Micro Station ORD, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus)
- Strong communication and project management skills
The approximate compensation range for this position is $140 - $190k. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
