Principal Hardware Design Engineer – Dearborn, MI (On-site)
Join Saanvi Technologies as a Principal Hardware Design Engineer to lead the end‑to‑end electrical design and development of automotive Battery Management Systems (BMS). This role requires deep expertise in high‑voltage systems, battery electronics, and safety‑critical hardware design.
Position OverviewLead BMS architecture, guide hardware development, and collaborate across global engineering teams to deliver robust, high‑performance energy storage solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the full lifecycle electrical design of automotive BMS hardware, including high‑voltage monitoring, cell balancing, protection circuits, and communication interfaces (CAN, LIN, SPI, I²C).
- Define and document BMS electrical architecture aligned with vehicle system requirements and functional safety goals.
- Develop detailed schematics, select components, and collaborate with PCB layout teams to ensure reliability, performance, and manufacturability.
- Design and integrate monitoring circuits and sensors to measure voltage, current, temperature, and state of charge (SOC).
- Guide the development of BMS hardware components including PCBs, microcontrollers, analog/digital circuits, and sensors.
- Build, test, and validate hardware prototypes to ensure compliance with performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct hardware troubleshooting and root cause analysis, implementing design improvements to enhance system performance and robustness.
- Ensure hardware designs comply with applicable safety standards such as ISO 26262, IEC 62133, and relevant federal and state regulations.
- Perform safety analysis and support DFMEA, WCCA, and design reviews.
- Create and maintain comprehensive design documentation including specifications, test plans, test reports, and engineering change records.
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to define system and performance requirements.
- Collaborate with software, systems, validation, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless BMS integration.
- Lead technical design reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers.
- Coordinate and provide technical oversight for offshore and global engineering teams.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, battery trends, and industry best practices.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance BMS hardware design, efficiency, and reliability.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Strong experience in automotive hardware design, with a focus on BMS or power electronics.
- Proficiency with PCB design tools (Altium Designer, Cadence) and simulation tools (SPICE).
- Strong knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, microcontrollers, and sensor integration.
- Experience with Li‑Ion battery systems, battery safety, and industry standards.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
- Proven leadership experience managing and guiding engineering teams.
