In this position, in addition to demonstrated overall chassis systems and chassis design and release experience and problem-solving skills, applicants must possess a passion for performance and strong interest in technology. Applicants will be required to interface with teams that include Ford Racing Vehicle Engineering, Core Ford Chassis and Body Structure Engineering and several Ford Production Facilities and Chassis Tier 1-3 Suppliers offering numerous opportunities to expand technical knowledge in a wide area of automotive technologies, systems, and components.
For the areas of suspension arms, knuckles, subframes, wheels and tire the timeframe horizon on these systems and components is from initial chassis layout, technology selection, supplier selection, engineering program milestone delivery, production plans, execution of launch and continued support for quality and cost efficiency through the life of the program applications.
ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll do...
- Design and release responsibility for Ford Racing unique active and passive suspension systems:
Arms /bushings /joints, knuckles, subframes, tires and wheels. - For the systems and components listed above, lead your engineers in delivery of engineering program gateways with high level of engineering excellence for design failure mode analysis, analytical analysis of designs for capability and resolution of issues with problem solving methods for sound root cause analysis.
- Manage the Tier 1-3 suppliers in meeting the Ford requirements for system and component design to support the program timing and financial targets.
- Support Ford Racing Pre-Program Vehicle Architecture Chassis layout for chassis structural member capability for section size, bushing and joint analysis along with component and factory initial feasibility assessments to support delivery of robust system selection.
- Deliver technical project presentations to senior management including results and accomplishments, conclusions and recommendations, and lessons learned.
You'll have...
- BS degree in Engineering required.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in chassis design and release for suspension members
- Demonstrated experience with leading Chassis Engineering teams on multiple concurrent programs.
Desired requirements:
- Engineering MS degree or higher
- Minimum of 10 years experience in chassis design and release.
- Experience in chassis systems and/or frame or subframe design and release.
- Working understanding of Functional requirements, failure mode effects, causes, severity and detection methods (DFMEAs)
- Ability to develop clear working level documents and management presentations as well as clear/concise communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage several unique tasks simultaneously.
- Ability and willingness to travel to both Ford and supplier domestic and foreign locations.
