Engine Performance Development (EPD) is responsible for verifying the engine attributes related to combustion, mechanical function, and durability. In this department we use engine dynamo meters to test and validate these attributes.
Our work includes optimization of engine control settings to improve fuel economy and performance, validating the engines durability by performing cycle based testing, and establishing advertised power and torque for regulatory agencies and marketing. This is a hands on job that allows individuals to work directly with engine hardware.
What you'll do...- Design and oversight of engine testing plans required for validation of engine fuel economy, performance and durability attributes, combustion strategy, and engine system architecture. This involves defining test objectives and selecting experimental methodologies and design, specifying engine testing equipment and instrumentation (e.g., low, and high-speed data acquisition systems, gaseous and particulate emissions sampling equipment), while ensuring that testing adheres to engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols.
- Coordinate with various engineering teams to facilitate the preparation and execution of engine testing. The engineer will coordinate resources, guide test preparation, schedule test activities and troubleshoot technical issues to ensure efficient testing progress.
- Post-processing of engine test data in preparation for in-depth analysis using company specific and industry standard data analysis and visualization tools, including, but not limited to, MATLAB and AVL Concerto. Data quality checks will be conducted to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
- In-depth analysis of post-processed test data to identify critical trends and anomalies in engine combustion, fuel economy, performance, and emissions. Analysis will apply fundamental Thermal Fluid Science principles (e.g., Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer and Combustion) to understand the underlying physical phenomena present in the engine test results. Further analysis will be performed to define optimal engine designs and calibrations. Analysis results will be prepared and presented in technical reports and data summary meetings for engineering and management teams.
- Development and implementation of post-processing tools and methodologies to enhance data analysis efficiency and capability. This includes the creation of bespoke scripts, algorithms, and software, along with the refinement of existing tools.
- Prepare test data for presentations to various cross functional team members
