About the Unit

9 South is a 32‑bed medical unit that cares for a wide variety of diagnoses and multiple chronic comorbidities in patients ages 18‑100+. The unit houses our ACE (Acute Care of the Elderly) program, which helps prevent complications for patients 65+ so they can return to their baseline function and home setting. The unit also treats medical overflow and we monitor up to 8 telemetry cardiac patients.

The RN, under the ANA scope of practice, provides professional nursing care by following the nursing process, incorporating patient‑family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. The RN works under the Nurse Leader’s direction according to Corewell Health policies and procedures, and recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on outcomes. The RN partners with patients/families to set goals, plans care, develops teaching strategies, and documents education in the health record.

• Associate’s in Nursing required.
• Bachelor’s in Nursing required within 5 years.
• Graduates from a non‑accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of licensed health‑care experience and must have passed the NCLEX.
• MI Registered Nurse (RN) required.
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire.
• Specialty Certification highly recommended within 2 years.
